In the BMW Open qualifying first round on Munich's outdoor clay, higher-ranked Alexander Shevchenko (No. 77) faces 18-year-old German wild card Diego Dedura-Palomero (No. 258) in their first head-to-head matchup. Shevchenko enters with solid recent form, including an upset over Ben Shelton at the Miami Masters last month, though he fell to Roberto Bautista Agut in Bucharest last week; his 2026 clay win rate sits at 46%. Dedura-Palomero, a lefty rising from Futures and Challengers with a recent win over Daniel Elahi Galan, benefits from home-crowd support but lacks ATP-level experience. No reported injuries for either; expect Shevchenko's baseline consistency to test the teen's aggression on a potentially slow clay surface.
