The Cubs' rotation is thinned by top prospect Cade Horton's season-ending UCL surgery, Matthew Boyd's biceps strain on the 15-day IL, and reliever Phil Maton's knee tendinitis, though outfielder Seiya Suzuki's activation from a knee sprain bolsters their lineup. Mets contend without Juan Soto (calf strain, out weeks) and recent hamstring issues for Clay Holmes, but sit near .500 alongside Chicago (6-7 record) after a four-game skid, highlighting mutual vulnerabilities in a high-stakes NL clash with home-field and weather factors at play.
