Sorana Cirstea enters this Wimbledon second-round grass-court matchup as the clear favorite, reflecting her superior ranking near No. 18, veteran experience at age 36, and strong 2026 form that includes deep runs at Roland Garros and solid results on varied surfaces. Cirstea defeated qualifier Maddison Inglis in her opener and holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge. Kimberly Birrell, ranked around No. 72, has shown upset potential with recent victories over players such as Krejcikova and Pegula, yet her grass-court record and overall consistency lag behind. The faster, lower-bouncing conditions at Wimbledon typically reward Cirstea’s baseline game and serve, while Birrell will need to capitalize on any early breaks or unforced errors to extend the contest. No major injury concerns have emerged for either player ahead of the July 2 encounter.
