Leylah Fernandez, ranked No. 25, meets qualifier Zeynep Sonmez, No. 79, in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix round of 16 on indoor clay—marking their first WTA tour clash. Sonmez rides high momentum from yesterday's straight-sets upset over fifth seed Jasmine Paolini, her inaugural top-10 win in 75 minutes via aggressive baseline tennis, following strong Miami and Australian Open showings. Fernandez steadily advanced past Alexandra Eala in the opener, leveraging lefty spin on a surface suiting her topspin game, amid a solid clay-season buildup with Charleston and Miami deep runs. No reported injuries; Sonmez's qualifier grit and recent higher-seed scalps heighten upset risk against Fernandez's ranking edge and experience.
