In the WTA 250 Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole on indoor clay, unseeded 21-year-old Dominika Salkova (world No. 124) meets 38-year-old Tatjana Maria (No. 63) in the round of 16—their first head-to-head clash. Salkova surged into the second round yesterday with a 7-5, 6-1 upset over higher-ranked Anna Blinkova, extending her strong momentum from a WTA 125 singles title in Les Sables d'Olonne earlier this year. Maria, enduring a tough 3-12 YTD singles record, advanced past local wildcard Elsa Jacquemot in straight sets but relies on her veteran slice backhand and clay affinity for an upset. Youthful power favors Salkova in trader consensus, though Maria's tactical nous and experience could extend rallies on the slower surface.
