Juan Manuel Cerundolo enters the Barcelona Open qualifying first round on red clay as the higher-ranked player at No. 71 against Jesper de Jong at No. 108, leveraging his left-handed baseline game suited to the surface. The Argentine leads their head-to-head 1-0 from a 2023 meeting, bolstered by recent clay exposure including a Monte Carlo main-draw loss to Valentin Vacherot last week that keeps him match-tested. De Jong, a right-hander, has faltered with a subpar 2026 record and ranking slide from a January career-high of 71, posting limited wins amid tough scheduling. No injuries reported; outdoor conditions at Pista Andres Gimeno could amplify endurance edges in this best-of-three sets matchup.
