Hamad Medjedovic rides massive momentum into the Barcelona Open quarterfinals after stunning third seed Alex de Minaur in straight sets during the second round, marking his biggest career win and ninth victory in his last 10 matches on the ATP Tour. The 22-year-old Serb, ranked No. 88, faces No. 52 Nuno Borges, who advanced with a gritty defeat of Tomas Martin Etcheverry, sealing it with an underarm serve on match point for his deepest ATP 500 run. No prior head-to-head exists on clay, where Borges holds a slight rankings edge but enters off a first-round Monte Carlo loss, while Medjedovic's qualifier-to-QF surge highlights his explosive form on the outdoor dirt surface.
