Jay Clarke holds a substantial edge as the No. 179-ranked veteran over 18-year-old local hopeful Gabriel Ghetu (No. 715) in this ATP 250 Tiriac Open qualifying opener on outdoor red clay in Bucharest, where trader consensus reflects Clarke's experience against Ghetu's nascent pro career. Clarke arrives off a second-round qualifying loss to Liam Draxl at Miami Masters 1000 (3-6, 4-6 on hard) but posted clay challenger semis recently, showcasing baseline solidity suited to the surface. Ghetu, a Bucharest native, reached an M25 Antalya clay final last month amid ITF-level form but faltered in higher draws like G1 Asuncion clay. No head-to-head exists; home crowd and youth could fuel Ghetu upset potential in best-of-three sets, absent injury concerns.
