The Odyssey and The Black Ball sit neck-and-neck as the market’s clearest frontrunners for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2027 Oscars, reflecting their strong combination of prestige source material, high-profile directors, and early industry buzz. Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation carries the weight of his proven awards track record and blockbuster scale, while La Bola Negra benefits from critical consensus around its literary roots and timely themes. Project Hail Mary, released in March with solid box office and review scores, provides a benchmark for how early sci-fi contenders can maintain momentum, yet its lower odds underscore the Academy’s historical preference for fall-season releases. The Invite, Dune: Part Three, Ink, and Wildwood round out the next tier, each tied to established auteurs or studios whose guild and critics’ circle support could shift the race once precursors begin. With no major festivals or nominations yet, trader sentiment hinges on fall campaign visibility, review aggregates, and historical patterns favoring films that dominate later awards cycles.
