In the WTA 125K Madrid clay-court round of 16, fifth-seeded Francesca Jones (#100) holds a significant edge over Elina Avanesyan (#367) based on trader consensus reflecting the wide ranking gap and Jones's seeding. Jones grinded out a resilient three-set win over Elizabeth Mandlik (4-6, 6-7(5), 7-6(3), 6-4) on April 6 to advance, showcasing stamina after a straight-sets clay loss in Bogota last week. Avanesyan progressed via straight-sets victory over Andrea Lazaro Garcia but enters with a shaky 2026 record (5-7 overall, mixed clay results including Antalya 125 R16 exits). No prior head-to-head exists; Jones's two 125 clay titles from 2025 bolster her surface credentials amid Madrid's high-altitude conditions favoring baseline power.
