Eduard Ionescu's upset straight-sets victory over China's Liang Jingkun earlier today has propelled Romania to a 1-0 lead in their ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals London 2026 men's round of 16 tie against China, fueling trader consensus at 52% implied probability for Ionescu over world No.1 Wang Chuqin. Despite Wang's dominant 3-0 head-to-head win versus Ionescu at the March World Cup Macao and superior rankings, China's recent group stage losses to Sweden and Korea Republic highlight rare vulnerabilities amid a grueling schedule. Ionescu's surging form and home-crowd momentum in London balance the matchup; Wang regaining rhythm or exploiting stylistic edges could shift odds back, while Ionescu's confidence sustains the upset potential.
