Amazon’s $200 billion 2026 capital-expenditure guidance, announced during February’s Q4 2025 earnings release, remains the central driver of trader expectations. The company attributed the more-than-50% increase from 2025’s $131 billion primarily to AWS data-center buildout, custom AI chips, networking gear, and robotics capacity amid sustained customer demand. Quarterly reports through Q1 2026 show capex running at elevated levels consistent with the full-year target, while large committed deals—including a multi-year OpenAI agreement exceeding $100 billion—provide visibility. Competitive pressure from Microsoft, Google, and Meta, whose combined 2026 plans now exceed $500 billion, reinforces the hyperscaler AI infrastructure race. Key near-term catalysts include upcoming quarterly updates and any shifts in AWS revenue growth or energy-cost headwinds that could alter spending cadence.
