Recent National Weather Service guidance places Chicago’s Sunday high near 72°F under mostly sunny skies shifting to a 30% chance of afternoon showers, driven by northerly winds behind a weak front and modest onshore flow from Lake Michigan that caps afternoon heating. Ensemble model spreads and slight timing differences in any shower activity create the narrow gap between 72–73°F and 74–75°F bins that together command over 60% of market-implied probability. Historical September 13 averages near 77°F underscore how the current cool advection stands out, while traders weigh the potential for slightly warmer readings if skies remain clearer or showers stay offshore. Updated NWS short-range guidance and next model cycles will clarify whether the high settles at the lower or upper edge of the favored range.
