Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's April 29 press conference follows the FOMC's April 28-29 meeting, where traders anticipate steady interest rates amid resilient March jobs data showing 178,000 nonfarm payroll gains and unemployment at 4.3%, offset by hotter-than-expected CPI inflation surging to 3.3% year-over-year due to energy price spikes from the Iran conflict. Recent March FOMC minutes revealed divisions on rate cuts, with Powell signaling caution on geopolitical risks' inflationary impact, diminishing 2026 easing expectations per CME FedWatch probabilities near 95% for no change. Powell's term expires in May, adding uncertainty to forward guidance and dot plot updates on inflation trends and growth forecasts.
