The demanding, wind-exposed layout rewards precise ball-striking and course management over raw distance, keeping a broad group of accurate drivers and steady putters in contention. Early tee times and variable Northeast weather add further uncertainty, while recent form from players like Harris English, Cameron Young, and Scottie Scheffler shows no dominant edge yet. Historical U.S. Open patterns at Shinnecock favor experienced major performers who navigate firm, fast conditions without early blow-ups, sustaining the tight market bunched across the field.
