Trader consensus on Polymarket reflects a resounding 91% implied probability for Lionel Messi suiting up for Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, fueled by his recent recovery from a February hamstring strain and return to full training with Inter Miami, where coaches refuse to rest him in the MLS "final stretch" leading to kickoff. At 38, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has repeatedly voiced his desire to defend the 2022 title on home soil across North America, with manager Lionel Scaloni affirming the decision rests with Messi but emphasizing his indispensable cultural icon status for global football. No retirement signals or fresh injuries have emerged in the past month, bolstering frontrunner momentum amid Argentina's stacked squad. Realistic upset risks include a late-season knock or physical toll from age, though warm-up friendlies in early June offer final fitness tests before the June 11 opener.
