Bella Payne and Ashton Bowers meet in the opening round of the ITF Sumter event, an American matchup between a rising WTA-ranked professional and a college standout gaining ITF experience. Payne, currently around world No. 553 with a 15-10 record in 2026, enters after advancing through early rounds at the ITF W50 Pelham before a semifinal loss to Madison Brengle, showing consistent form on clay and hard courts. Bowers, a former Texas and Auburn player with strong collegiate results including NCAA appearances, recently secured a straight-sets win over Salma Ewing in Sumter and brings power from her college background but limited recent pro volume. Surface conditions, recent match loads, and head-to-head inexperience for both will shape the contest in this lower-tier professional event.
