Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,630 per ounce as of late August 2026, recovering from earlier 2026 volatility after peaking above $5,600 in January. Trader focus centers on Federal Reserve policy under Chair Kevin Warsh, with the funds rate steady at 3.50–3.75% and September FOMC meeting odds pricing roughly 35–44% for a hike following softer July jobs data and CPI near 3.4%. Lower rate-hike expectations, a softer dollar, and subdued real yields reduce gold’s opportunity cost while supporting safe-haven demand amid persistent geopolitical tensions. Upcoming September inflation releases, labor reports, and the FOMC decision represent key near-term catalysts that could shift implied probabilities and price levels into the month. Central bank purchases and ETF flows provide additional structural support.
