Amazon shares closed at $256.97 on September 8, 2026, down 0.6% amid broader market weakness, with the stock trading near the lower end of its recent range after pulling back from August highs above $278. Trader sentiment reflects ongoing tension between robust AWS revenue growth of 37% year-over-year and elevated capital expenditures projected at $220 billion for 2026 to support AI infrastructure. Recent developments, including an FTC lawsuit alleging advertising overcharges and a proposed class-action claim on workplace discrimination, add near-term overhang, while the company's first sterling bond issuance signals continued financing needs for expansion. Market-implied odds for the September 9 close will likely hinge on intraday equity futures, Treasury yields, and any follow-through from these macro and regulatory factors.
