Matteo Berrettini's superior clay-court prowess and resurgent form position him as a live underdog against seventh seed Daniil Medvedev in their second-round Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters matchup on outdoor clay. Berrettini, entering as a wildcard, cruised past Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets during qualifying, leveraging his booming serve and heavy groundstrokes ideally suited to slower surfaces, while Medvedev—boasting a 19-5 record this year but 0-0 on clay—holds a perfect 3-0 head-to-head edge, all on hard courts where his flat-hitting baseline game thrives. Medvedev's historical clay struggles persist despite recent improvement claims, with no major injury concerns reported for either; variable Monte Carlo weather and fatigue from Medvedev's schedule could tilt dynamics ahead of Roland Garros tune-up. Trader consensus reflects Medvedev's ranking edge tempered by surface mismatch.
