Valentin Vacherot rides momentum into his third-round clash against Hubert Hurkacz at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, having upset 2025 finalist Lorenzo Musetti 7-6(6), 7-5 yesterday after a comeback win over qualifier Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the opener, showcasing sharp clay-court defense on his home courts where he grew up training. No. 23-ranked Vacherot boasts a 2-0 clay record this season amid a solid 12-7 start overall. Hurkacz, entering on protected ranking after snapping a seven-match losing streak—including his first win in 77 days via a gritty three-setter over No. 15 seed Luciano Darderi and a 6-2, 6-3 rout of Fabian Marozsan—faces a stylistic test on red dirt, his less favored surface, with no head-to-head history. Traders weigh Vacherot's crowd-backed baseline grinding against Hurkacz's big serving in potential wind at Court Rainier III.
