Defending champion and world No. 3 Alexander Zverev advanced to the BMW Open round of 16 with a gritty 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4) win over Miomir Kecmanovic on clay, positioning him as the clear trader consensus favorite against No. 37 Gabriel Diallo, whom he beat in four sets at the 2026 Australian Open. Diallo impressed in his opener, dominating qualifier Vitaliy Sachko 6-1, 6-2 to end a three-match losing streak, showcasing his powerful serve. Zverev's baseline prowess, home crowd support at MTTC Iphitos, and strong clay swing form—including a Monte-Carlo semifinal—bolster his edge on this outdoor clay, though Diallo's upset potential lingers in best-of-three sets amid potentially cool Munich conditions.
