Juan Manuel Cerundolo holds a clear edge over Jesper de Jong in the Barcelona Open qualifying final on red clay, bolstered by his No. 71 ATP ranking versus de Jong's No. 108, superior clay court record, and a 1-0 head-to-head win from their 2023 Tigre Challenger final. Both advanced convincingly in Q1 yesterday, with Cerundolo dominating Giulio Zeppieri 6-1, 7-5, and de Jong upsetting higher-ranked Benjamin Bonzi 6-4, 6-1. Cerundolo's recent Monte Carlo qualifying loss to Valentin Vacherot adds urgency, while de Jong gains momentum from his straight-sets victory. As an Argentine lefty clay specialist, Cerundolo thrives on this surface against de Jong's less proven baseline game, shaping trader consensus toward the higher seed despite upset potential in best-of-three sets.
