The recent U.S.-Denmark-Greenland security agreement announced September 18 centers on expanded American military access, basing rights, and overflight privileges in the Arctic territory while barring non-NATO adversaries from bases or sensitive investments. No full text has been released publicly, with Danish officials indicating the three parties plan to sign the accord during the United Nations General Assembly the following week before parliamentary procedures in Copenhagen and Nuuk. The arrangement builds on the existing 1951 Defense of Greenland agreement, avoids any sovereignty transfer, and preserves Danish territorial integrity alongside Greenlandic self-determination rights. These timeline and procedural steps, plus the gap between announcement and formal documentation, shape trader focus on release timing and confirmation details.
