Persistent marine layer stratus and strong onshore westerly flow of 10-20 mph are capping daytime heating along the San Francisco coast, keeping the highest temperature tightly clustered in the mid-to-upper 60s. Recent NWS guidance and ensemble model runs show a deeper inversion and limited afternoon clearing on August 29, following a brief warm surge earlier in the week that reached the mid-70s. This pattern aligns with climatological August norms near 68 °F while the spread between 66-67 °F and 68-69 °F outcomes reflects minor differences in predicted marine-layer depth and wind timing. Traders are weighting the balance of official forecasts that favor highs near 64-66 °F against the possibility of slightly greater solar heating if the stratus erodes earlier than expected.
