Apple's decision to raise the iPhone 18 Pro starting price to $1,199 for the 256GB model—up $100 from the prior generation—reflects persistent memory and storage cost pressures from surging AI demand, which analysts estimated added $150–$200 or more per unit to Apple's bill of materials. Tim Cook highlighted these "unavoidable" hikes earlier in 2026 after similar increases on Macs, iPads, and other hardware, while competitors like Samsung and Google applied comparable $100 adjustments to their flagships. Leaks and forecasts had ranged from modest $50–$100 bumps to steeper $200–$300 jumps, but Apple opted for a contained increase alongside new storage tiers and camera features, with the September 9 launch event confirming the final pricing amid ongoing supply constraints and margin protection efforts.
