Recent Léger and aggregator data show the Parti Québécois holding a steady lead near 30 percent, leaving a tight contest for second place between the Quebec Liberal Party under Charles Milliard and the governing Coalition Avenir Québec under new leader Christine Fréchette, both near 23 percent in the latest surveys. The CAQ has gained several points in August polling, largely at the expense of Québec solidaire, while the Liberals draw heavy support from anglophone and allophone voters in the Montreal region. High numbers of undecided voters, shifting second-choice preferences, and the first-past-the-post system in francophone ridings keep the race fluid. The official campaign launch and upcoming debates could further consolidate or fragment support among the PCQ and remaining parties before October 5 voting.
