Paul St-Pierre Plamondon of the Parti Québécois holds the strongest position in trader assessments for the next Quebec premier, driven by consistent polling leads for his party ahead of the October 5 provincial election and voter desire for change after more than eight years of Coalition Avenir Québec governance. Recent campaign developments have centered on the PQ's commitment to a sovereignty referendum costing an estimated $130 million, even in a minority scenario, alongside debates over U.S. tariffs, cost-of-living pressures, health care access, and education reform. Christine Fréchette, the CAQ leader and current premier who assumed the role in April 2026, trails amid efforts to highlight government efficiency and economic management, while other candidates including Charles Milliard of the Quebec Liberal Party and Ruba Ghazal of Québec solidaire remain further back in both polls and market pricing. Upcoming televised debates and ongoing discussions of minority government dynamics could still influence final outcomes before election day.
