This market will resolve to “Yes” if a snap election is called in Saxony-Anhalt by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” The calling of a snap election requires the formal dissolution of the Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt, or another formal scheduling, according to the rules of the jurisdiction, of an election for all members of the Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt prior to their scheduled election at the end of the legislative term. Dissolution by resolution of the Landtag, dissolution following a failure to elect a Minister-President, and any other means of dissolution provided for by the Constitution of the State of Saxony-Anhalt all qualify. An announcement of an intention to seek dissolution, a failed vote on dissolution, or the failure of coalition negotiations will not by itself qualify toward a “Yes” resolution. The resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of Saxony-Anhalt and the Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.**Traders assign a 72.5% probability that no snap election will be called in Saxony-Anhalt in 2026, reflecting the fact that the scheduled Landtag election took place on September 6.** The Alternative for Germany secured 43.8% of the vote and 39 of 83 seats—its strongest state result ever—but fell three short of an absolute majority. The CDU collapsed to 17.2% and 15 seats, while the SPD, Greens, Left, and BSW each crossed the 5% threshold with smaller shares. The previous CDU–SPD–FDP coalition lost its mandate, leaving a fragmented parliament in which no bloc reaches the 42-seat threshold without cross-party support. Mainstream parties maintain a firewall against the AfD, BSW conditions remain demanding, and talks over possible defectors or abstentions are only beginning. The incumbent government continues in a caretaker role, with the new Landtag required to convene within 30 days and elect a minister-president. While AfD leaders have not ruled out fresh elections if negotiations fail, the recent vote, procedural timelines, and absence of an immediate no-confidence trigger or coalition breakdown make an additional 2026 poll unlikely in the eyes of traders.
