Chloe Foster leads the Waratah-Wynyard mayoral race at 45% implied probability, followed by sitting councillors Dillon Roberts at 28%, Leanne Raw at 17.5%, and Michael Johnstone at 14.5%, with the field fragmented after incumbent Mary Duniam’s retirement. Nominations closed on September 21, ahead of the October 27-28 election, leaving an open contest among five confirmed candidates including Steve Smxth. Recent council unity on supporting local business expansion, such as the Seekers Café application where multiple contenders participated, highlights shared priorities on economic development and jobs. Trader sentiment remains tight due to comparable local government experience among the frontrunners and limited differentiation on key issues like infrastructure and community services. The October vote count will determine the winner under Tasmania’s local electoral system.
