Alison Jarman holds a modest lead in the Devonport mayoral market as the incumbent, while Steve Martin trails as the main challenger and a long-serving councillor. The race remains competitive heading into the October 2026 Tasmanian local elections because both candidates draw from established local networks, with Jarman benefiting from visibility on council initiatives such as childcare expansion, walking and riding infrastructure, and tourism promotion during the 2022–2026 term. Martin’s profile as a former senator and current councillor sustains his support among voters seeking continuity or alternative priorities. Limited public announcements of additional contenders and the absence of major recent controversies or policy shifts keep probabilities compressed, though candidate nominations, campaign launches, or late local issues could widen the gap before polling day.
