Alaska’s August 18, 2026 top-four primary features 17 candidates vying for the four spots that advance to the November general election, following term limits on incumbent Republican Governor Mike Dunleavy. Recent withdrawals, including Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom in early June, have narrowed the field slightly while leaving a crowded ballot. Polling and media attention center on six contenders—Democrats Tom Begich and Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, Republicans Click Bishop, David Bronson, and Bernadette Wilson, and independent Bill Walker—with early surveys showing Begich holding modest leads in head-to-head matchups. The nonpartisan primary format and fragmented vote among Republicans increase uncertainty over which four will advance, with the outcome hinging on turnout patterns and any late shifts in the final weeks before the primary.
