In the Busan Challenger first-round clash on hard courts, third-seeded Sho Shimabukuro (ATP No. 110) holds a ranking edge over Ilia Simakin (No. 219), shaping trader consensus toward the Japanese veteran in their third head-to-head meeting, split 1-1 on the surface after Simakin's 2025 Suzhou win via Shimabukuro's retirement. Simakin arrives with superior 2026 hard-court form at 18-5, highlighted by a Phan Thiet 2 title and quarterfinal loss to Pavel Kotov at Wuning just last week (April 10), while Shimabukuro stands 13-8 following a first-round Yokkaichi exit to Naoya Honda end-March. No injury concerns reported; expect a competitive best-of-three sets matchup testing Simakin's momentum against Shimabukuro's experience.
