In the first round of the Tallahassee Challenger on green clay, No. 6 seed Colton Smith (ATP 189) meets qualifier Garrett Johns (ATP 368) in a matchup shaped by Johns' prior 6-3, 6-3 upset win over Smith in 2025 US Open qualifying on hard courts. Smith enters fresher after a direct entry, but arrives off a three-set R32 loss to Tyler Zink in last week's Sarasota Challenger on clay, where his 8-8 2026 record reflects inconsistency. Johns, a Duke alum, punched his main draw ticket yesterday with a 6-2, 6-4 qualie victory over Ronald Hohmann, risking fatigue from extra matches. Both Americans boast solid clay experience, with warm Tallahassee conditions (highs near 79°F) unlikely to disrupt play significantly.
