Despite Siegemund's perfect 3-0 head-to-head dominance—including a comeback win in last fall's Wuhan Open—and 2017 Stuttgart title as local wildcard, the 38-year-old German's ongoing singles struggles, with second-round exits to Svitolina at Indian Wells and Eala at Miami, highlight vulnerabilities amid her doubles focus. Frech, fresh off a four-match losing streak post-Merida final, benefits from consistent hard-court momentum into this clay matchup.
