The 2026 Liga 1 campaign remains unusually open for the runner-up position due to balanced results across the Apertura and ongoing Clausura, with no side establishing sustained dominance in the aggregate table. Promoted sides UTC Cajamarca and Deportivo Moquegua have integrated effectively alongside traditional powers like Universitario, Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, and FBC Melgar, while in-form clubs such as Deportivo Garcilaso, Los Chankas, Cienciano, and Cusco FC occupy strong Clausura positions through recent wins and defensive organization. The league's playoff format for determining the runner-up—contested by top aggregate teams when a single club claims both short tournaments—further spreads probability, as mid-table momentum swings and head-to-head fixtures continue to reshape the standings without creating separation.
