Mary Peltola advanced from Alaska’s August 2026 top-four primary with nearly 50 percent of the vote, outpacing incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan’s 41 percent and positioning her as the clear frontrunner in trader assessments of the November general election. The race operates under ranked-choice voting with four candidates on the ballot, including two Republicans sharing similar names that could fragment conservative support in later rounds. Recent polling shows the contest essentially tied or within a few points, reflecting Peltola’s strong name recognition from her prior House service, substantial fundraising, and appeal among independent and crossover voters in a state that has not elected a Democratic senator since 2008. Most forecasters rate the contest a toss-up, with RCV mechanics and turnout among key blocs remaining central variables that could still shift the outcome before Election Day.
