Gerwyn Price enters the 2026 New Zealand Darts Masters opener as a heavy favorite against local qualifier Mark Cleaver, reflecting the vast gulf in PDC pedigree and recent competitive levels. Price, a former world champion with consistent appearances in majors and high averages in elite events, brings superior scoring power, finishing, and experience on the international stage. Cleaver, a longtime New Zealand circuit player averaging in the low-to-mid 80s, competes primarily in domestic events and lacks comparable exposure against top-ranked opponents. No confirmed injuries or lineup changes alter the setup, and Price's form in recent PDC events underscores his ability to control legs and matches against lower-ranked foes. This talent and experience mismatch drives the strong trader consensus behind the Welshman's implied probability in the first-round encounter.
