Older women remain one of the most competitive voting blocs heading into the 2026 midterms, with trader consensus reflected in near-even pricing between the parties on the generic congressional ballot. Recent polling from Pew and others shows voters 65 and older splitting closely or showing only a modest Republican edge that has narrowed from 2024 levels, driven by economic anxiety and concerns over entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare. AARP surveys highlight that women 50 and older express particular unease about financial security and future economic conditions, creating openings for both parties to contest the group through messaging on healthcare costs, retirement benefits, and inflation. The gender gap persists overall but narrows among this older cohort, where turnout is historically high and neither side has established a durable advantage in current surveys. Scheduled campaign events, candidate positioning on fiscal policy, and any shifts in generic ballot trends through the fall could widen the margin before November.
