The competitive positioning in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election stems primarily from the Green Party’s strong local challenge against Labour following Keir Starmer’s resignation as MP, with nominations closing on 15 September and polling set for 8 October. Labour’s candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali, leader of Camden Council, faces Green leader Zack Polanski in a constituency where recent local elections showed Labour on roughly 38% and the Greens near 29%, narrowing the gap from the 2024 general election result of 48.9% for Labour. Projections place Labour around 40-42% in the by-election, reflecting factors such as turnout patterns, the absence of an incumbent, and the concentration of progressive voters in this central London seat. The market’s near-even weighting between the 35-40% and 40-45% bins captures the uncertainty over whether Labour can hold its historical share or if Green advances and minor-party fragmentation will pull the result lower.

This market will resolve according to the percentage of valid votes received by the Labour Party candidate in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election.
