Redistricting has transformed Texas’s 9th Congressional District from a long-held Democratic seat into one rated Solid Republican by multiple forecasters, prompting incumbent Al Green to seek reelection elsewhere and leaving an open contest. Republican nominee Alex Mealer secured the nomination after defeating state Rep. Briscoe Cain in the May 26 runoff, bolstered by a Trump endorsement and a background as a combat veteran and executive. Democrat Leticia Gutierrez emerged from her party’s primary to face Mealer and independent Roy Morales in the November 3 general election. Trader consensus on the Republican outcome aligns with the district’s revised partisan composition and the absence of an incumbent advantage for Democrats, while the November timeline leaves room for standard campaign developments to influence final margins.
