Gold prices have consolidated near $4,040–$4,050 per ounce amid a stronger U.S. dollar and renewed speculation over potential Federal Reserve rate hikes later in 2026. Recent trading reflects pressure from higher real yields and reduced safe-haven flows, despite persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that historically support the metal. Trader sentiment for the week of August 3 centers on upcoming U.S. economic releases and central bank communications, which could shift expectations for monetary policy and inflation trajectories. Lower-than-expected data or dovish signals would likely ease rate-hike odds and support XAU/USD, while resilient growth or hawkish commentary could reinforce the dollar’s bid and cap gains. Market positioning remains sensitive to any revisions in the Fed’s dot plot or Treasury yield movements.
