Tomas Martin Etcheverry enters as the higher-ranked contender at No. 29 against No. 50 Nuno Borges in the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell round of 16 on outdoor red clay, where the Argentine's baseline grinding suits the surface far better than Borges' aggressive serving style. Etcheverry advanced with straight-sets wins over Zizou Bergs (7-6, 7-6) and qualifier Nick Hardt (7-5, 6-?), building momentum after a Monte Carlo round of 16 run and Houston quarterfinal before a retirement. Borges notched a first-round upset over a qualifier but holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge from their January Auckland clash on hard (7-5, 3-6, 7-6). No injury concerns reported, though clay fatigue could factor on short-notice turnaround.
