California's June 2 top-two primary for the 45th congressional district featured incumbent Democrat Derek Tran facing five Republican challengers in an Orange County seat with a large Asian American electorate. Early and partial results showed Tran exceeding 50 percent of the vote, positioning him to advance, while vote-by-mail ballots continued arriving to finalize standings. Among Republicans, former Cerritos Mayor Chuong Vo held an early lead over candidates including Westminster Mayor Chi Charlie Nguyen, Mark Leonard, Amy Phan West, and Tom Vo. The outcome determines the two nominees advancing to the November 3 general election under California's nonpartisan primary rules, with redistricting from Proposition 50 adding context to the district's composition.
