The closely contested race for Ostrava's next mayor reflects a fragmented field ahead of the October 9-10 communal elections, with trader odds clustering around Aleš Boháč of Starostové pro Ostravu and Richard Vereš of ANO as the leading contenders. Boháč's slate draws strength from its depth of sitting obvod mayors and focus on local governance experience, while Vereš's ANO list positions itself to regain the primátor role lost in 2023 through promises on housing and infrastructure. Incumbent Jan Dohnal's rebranded srdcOVA coalition trails amid ongoing coalition-building among ODS, KDU-ČSL, and TOP 09. Multiple other lists, including those led by Rostislav Řeha of the Pirates and Lukáš Semerák of Ostravak, further split support in a system where the city council ultimately selects the mayor through post-election negotiations. Recent campaign launches and candidate announcements have kept probabilities tight by highlighting comparable local bases without clear polling separation.
