Recent editions illustrate the variance, with Alireza Firouzja claiming the September 22 win on 10/11 after a strong streak, Sina Movahed prevailing the prior week, and earlier victories going to players such as Denis Lazavik, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, and Arjun Erigaisi. The 11-round 5+0 Swiss format rewards consistent form, preparation, and tiebreak resilience amid frequent upsets, while factors like recent participation, head-to-head history, and schedule positioning further distribute chances across contenders without establishing a clear frontrunner.
