Boulais enters at No. 449 with a stronger 2026 record of 13-6 on hard (10-4), including recent qualifier successes, while Ellis (No. 534, 10-6 overall) rides momentum from a semifinal run at last week's Miyazaki Challenger, where he ousted higher seeds before falling to Liam Broady 7-6(2), 6-2. Both players show solid hard-court form, but Ellis's recent deep run highlights serve reliability and resilience, contrasted by Boulais's steadier win rate amid schedule travel from Japan to China. No reported injuries; expect a tight contest hinging on first-serve efficiency and baseline stamina.
