Local government elections are scheduled to be held across Tasmania on October 27, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of the Northern Midlands Council area as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as declared by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (https://www.tec.tas.gov.au/).**Northern Midlands Council’s mayoral race remains tightly contested ahead of Tasmania’s October 27, 2026, postal ballot because a fragmented field of independents, including incumbent Mary Knowles and challengers such as Angela Offord, Wendy Mitchell, Andrew McCullagh, and Adam Barnett, prevents any single candidate from consolidating strong trader consensus.** Ongoing council divisions, including past legal disputes over the use of public funds and governance reviews, have heightened voter focus on accountability, infrastructure renewal, and rate stability. With nominations opening imminently and no dominant polling or endorsements yet emerging, traders price the outcome near even odds across leading names and “Other,” reflecting uncertainty over how local priorities and turnout in the all-postal format will ultimately sort the contenders. Late-campaign events or confirmed candidate lists could still shift probabilities.
