Oshawa’s open mayoral race for the October 26 municipal election features a fragmented field following incumbent Dan Carter’s retirement and the August 21 close of nominations. Long-serving Regional Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri registered first in May and initially appeared positioned to lead, but the contest quickly expanded into a multi-candidate race with sitting councillors Derek Giberson and Jim Lee, plus businessman Henry Onwuachu and several others filing in subsequent weeks. The crowded ballot, including late entrants on the final day, has produced closely matched trader odds among the leading contenders. Key variables that could shift positioning include candidate endorsements, fundraising, visibility on issues such as downtown revitalization and housing, and any polling that emerges closer to election day.
