US Treasury’s announcement to at least double long-term bond buybacks starting in early September triggered a sharp decline in 30-year yields and a softer dollar index, providing the primary catalyst for silver’s 6-7% weekly rally to near $70 during the week of August 17. Spot XAG/USD advanced from the mid-$65 area as traders priced in reduced real yields and renewed safe-haven demand, extending a rebound from July lows near $56 amid persistent structural supply deficits. Market-implied odds now reflect momentum toward the 200-day moving average near $72, though any rebound in Treasury yields or hawkish signals from upcoming Federal Reserve minutes could quickly reverse sentiment. Industrial demand and dollar strength remain key swing factors for resolution.
